Why do hallway runners bunch up while regular rugs mostly don't? A hallway is a narrow, repeated path, so the same few feet of fabric get pushed and dragged over and over, and that friction is what causes waviness and bunching in cheaply made runners. The Longmeadow uses a slightly flatter wool weave than our living room rugs specifically so there's less loose pile to shift under repeated foot traffic, while cotton warp threads run the full length to keep the runner straight instead of curving over time. The jute fiber backing underneath adds enough grip and body that the runner resists sliding sideways when someone walks quickly through, which matters more in a hallway than almost anywhere else in the house. We used muted plant-based dye tones in a pattern that reads more like texture than a bold design, because a hallway is usually seen in passing glances rather than sat and studied, so it works better as a calm visual path than a statement piece. Think of it less like a rug and more like a well-worn garden path, steady, straight, and built to be walked on without a second thought.

The runner ships tightly rolled inside a protective kraft sleeve to prevent shifting during transit. It flattens fully within the first few days of normal foot traffic once unrolled.

Will a long runner like this bunch up in a narrow hallway? +

The flatter weave and cotton warp threads running the full length are specifically there to reduce bunching, though very high foot traffic areas may still need occasional flattening.

Can it be trimmed to fit a shorter hallway? +

We don't recommend cutting it yourself since that exposes the raw edge, it's best used at its woven length or in a hallway close to that size.

Does it work on both hardwood and tile? +

Yes, the jute backing grips both surfaces reasonably well, though a thin non-slip pad adds extra security on very smooth tile.

Is the pattern too bold for a small entryway? +

The dye pattern is intentionally muted and textural rather than high-contrast, so it tends to work well in smaller, narrower spaces.
