A hallway gets walked in one direction, over and over, which is a different kind of wear than a living room rug ever sees. That is why Longford is woven with a tighter, lower pile than our living room rugs, closer to the ground so there is less fiber to crush and flatten with repeated footsteps in the same narrow lane. The New Zealand wool used here is chosen for its durability first, softness second. Because a runner is long and narrow, keeping it straight matters more than with a square rug, so we run cotton warp threads the full length to stop the weave from bowing or twisting over time. A jute backing underneath grips tile, wood and laminate floors, which is exactly where hallway rugs tend to slide the most. The plant-based dye tones lean toward deeper, grounded colors that hide daily foot traffic better than pale shades would.
